About Ruthven Music

Ruthven Music is a well established Music Tuition Studio in the heart of Coatbridge. Set in a fully accessible, ground floor, end terrace unit in the Dundyvan Industrial Estate I provide one on one Instrumental lessons to all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced students looking to pursue a career in the expressive arts.

I also have experience working with students who have a range of educational and physical additional support needs.

I am a professional and well qualified Instrumental Tutor, and I have taught Piano, Keyboard, Violin, Viola, Singing and Music Theory for over 18 years.

Since 2005 I have been a private instrumental instructor in the North Lanarkshire area, and I now have a completely full teaching schedule of over 60 pupils.

Throughout my time at school I received Piano, Violin and Viola lessons, and was an active member of the Perth Youth Orchestra, several Choirs and Musical Theatre productions with which I took part in many festivals, competitions, concerts, performances and masterclasses both as a soloist and as part of various ensembles.

In 2003 I went on to study Music Education at the prestigious Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now known as the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) and graduated with a B.A. in 2007. I studied Piano under Lily Geddes and was a member of the Atheneum Orchestra, as well as receiving Vocal tuition, classes in Psychology, Music History, Composition, Conducting,  Jazz, Orchestration and Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drumkit and Recorder lessons.

As part of the course much of my time was spent on Primary and Secondary school placements, therefore I have a full understanding of the Scottish school system, including all the requirements for the SQA National, Higher and Advanced Higher Awards and can provide tutoring for both the practical and listening aspects of these exams.

I have attained a Diploma in Piano Teaching from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, as well as having many Grade certificates on various instruments and I continue to take exams as part of my ongoing professional development. I am also fully Disclosed with Disclosure Scotland and a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
